Wiregrass is the distinctive, wiry-stemmed sedge that dominates cranberry "bogs" or moderately acidic peatlands that have a carpet of sphagnum mosses. It grows on sedge peat or acidic sphagnum peat. It spreads by rhizomes, but it doesn't form dense patches.
